Ted
Robertson began building harpsichords in 1981 and now maintains his shop in
Ellettsville, Indiana, a town six miles northwest of Bloomington. In 1985,
The Indiana University School of Music commissioned him to build a copy of
the 1745 Dulcken harpsichord for its Early Music Institute.
Other Robertson instruments can be found in the U.S. as well as
abroad.
As
Richard Troeger, of the University of Alberta, Edmonton said:
"Your harpsichord modeled on the
Couchet/Blanchet/Taskin possesses, undoubtedly, the most beautiful and
interesting sound among all the harpsichords shown and I was pleased when it
evoked spontaneous applause from the audience during the demonstration of
various harpsichords. I
congratulate you upon your superb work." May 7, 1996.
Theodore Robertson married Seana Garber on April 12, 1997 and their daughter, Thea Octavia,
was born on December 9, 1999. The most recent addition to this musical family, their son,
Clarke Garber was born on December 9, 2001! Celebrating birthdays at the Robertson home will
be a big event every December!
Every effort is made
at Robertson Harpsichords to faithfully reproduce the tone as well as the
mechanical aspects according to historically derived principles and the
national styles of harpsichord making.
For example, our harpsichords come with wooden jacks and keyboards
that are of similar dimensions to the originals. Please contact us to
